To discover, procure, preserve, and diffuse whatever may relate to the natural, civil, literary, cultural, economic, ecclesiastical, and political history of the state of Alabama.
Founded in 1947, the Alabama Historical Association is the oldest statewide historical society in Alabama. The AHA provides opportunities for meaningful engagement with the past through publications, meetings, historical markers, and other programs.
The AHA is a volunteer-led and membership-supported organization. Our members are from every walk of life but share a common interest in Alabama history and a belief in its value for society today.
At our meetings you will get to know local historians, college professors, preservationists, genealogists, and archivists, as well as accountants, engineers, homemakers, business people, and teachers--in short, a diverse group of folks who enjoy each other's company and enjoy learning about the past.
We gather twice a year to hear talks on all aspects of Alabama history and to visit historic sites. Between meetings, we enjoy a semiannual newsletter and the quarterly Alabama Review, a journal that produces some of the best new scholarship on the state's history.
Joining the AHA brings opportunities to expand your knowledge of our state's history and to become an active participant in its preservation. We hope you will visit our web site and join today!
